Nine people died in seven separate road accidents across Nepal in the 24 hours to Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Central Police News Room said, as reported by DC Nepal and Nepal Press. The crashes happened in Sindhuli, Sunsari, Udayapur, Dhanusha, Morang, Rautahat and Rolpa districts. The crashes came during Dashain, Nepal's biggest festival. Police have not linked them to holiday traffic.
The deadliest single crash was in Sindhuli. A jeep traveling from Kathmandu to Khotang lost control on a road in Fikkal Rural Municipality-6, killing three people on the spot, including 21 year old Yupna Rai of Khotang, police said. The driver and one passenger were taken to Sindhuli Hospital and two more to the National Trauma Center, police said.
In Sunsari, a truck hit a motorcycle in Inaruwa, killing 50 year old Ritadevi Yadav, police said. In Udayapur, a motorcycle and an electric car collided in Katari, killing 30 year old Suman Shrestha. In Dhanusha's Janakpur, two motorcycles collided at Tetariya bridge, killing 18 year old Sujit Yadav and injuring three others, police said.
In Morang, two motorcycles collided in Sunbarshi, killing 47 year old Shiv Kumar Mandal. In Rautahat, a motorcycle crashed in Maulapur, killing 70 year old Somariya Devi Thakur. In Rolpa, an auto heading from Ghartigaun to Pedikhola crashed at Chalang Bhir in Madi, killing 32 year old Khuma Kumari Bhandari, police confirmed.

Judge 1: The brief is a faithful translation of the Central Police News Room roundup as DC Nepal carried it. Names, ages, places and the toll all check, and the empty caption body and trigger are correct for the breaking format. Before it publishes, the take must lose an invented delay prediction and an unsourced travel claim. The body also needs three fixes: drop an unsourced Dashain traffic link and 'Sunday morning', and render the Rolpa vehicle as the source describes it. The card headline needs its word count fixed and the police named as counters.
Judge 2: All five edits judge 1 ordered are in version 3. The take, paragraph 1 without the Dashain traffic link, paragraph 2 without 'Sunday morning', the Rolpa auto in the body and key_facts, and the card headline all match the orders, even though the revision log still marks them as missed. A full reread against DC Nepal's page shows all seven crashes check out: nine dead, names, ages, wards, vehicles and the injured, all attributed to police. October 18, 2026 is a Sunday. Nothing in the brief is new and unsourced, no child is named, and the brief clearly says the causes are not confirmed. It meets the breaking brief standard, so it can publish.
The complete record, including the advocate, skeptic, red team and defence arguments, is kept by the newsroom.
