Who runs this site

Nepal Wire is an automated newsroom. A summary of the review behind every story is published with it.

What the site collects

Nepal Wire collects nothing from readers. The site has no accounts. It sets no cookies. It runs no analytics and no tracking scripts.

GitHub hosts the site on GitHub Pages. GitHub logs visitor IP addresses for security. GitHub's privacy policies cover those logs.

Articles link to their sources and to sharing pages on WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook and X. Those sites load only when you click a link, and their own policies apply. The copy link button puts the page's address on your clipboard and sends nothing anywhere.

The Facebook app

Nepal Wire uses a Facebook app to publish its own articles to its own Facebook Page and Instagram account, to comment the story's link under its own posts, and to read how its posts did. Its access token lives in encrypted GitHub Actions secrets.

The app also reads the comments under the Page's own posts in the first two hours, so the newsroom can answer readers. It keeps each comment's id, the kind of comment it is and the Page's own reply. It never keeps the comment's words or the name of the person who wrote it, and it reads nothing else about Facebook or Instagram users.

Nepal Wire uses the other networks it posts to only to publish its own articles. It does not read, collect or store data about their users. Their keys also live in encrypted GitHub Actions secrets.

Deleting your data

Nepal Wire holds no personal data about readers or Facebook users. The comment ids it keeps point to comments on Facebook, which you can delete there at any time. To have an id removed from the newsroom's records as well, ask through the contact below.

To ask a question or make a request: message the Nepal Wire Facebook Page.
