Continuous landslides and flooding have blocked or restricted traffic on three highways in Nepal's Gandaki and Karnali provinces, Nepal Police said in information carried by DC Nepal on Monday, October 19, as the country travels for Dashain, with the main tika day two days away.

In Gorkha district, a flood damaged the iron bridge at Sotis near Aarughat, Nepal Police said. The road connecting Aarughat to Dhading, through Aarughat Rural Municipality wards 2 and 3, has been completely closed since 5:30 am on Sunday, October 11, police said.

In Myagdi district, a landslide at Baisari in Raghuganga Rural Municipality ward 2 has limited the Beni-Jomsom road to one-way traffic since 5:50 am on Saturday, September 26, Nepal Police said.

In Surkhet district, a landslide at Aulise in Barahatal Rural Municipality ward 7 has made the Karnali Highway one-way only since 5:45 am on Sunday, October 18, Nepal Police said. Nepalnews.com put the landslide at 5:45 am on Saturday, October 17. The police account carried by DC Nepal dates it to Kartik 1 in the Nepali calendar.

Ratopati and Nepalnews.com also reported disruption to the same three roads in Gandaki and Karnali provinces on Monday. Ratopati reported that efforts were underway to fully reopen the roads. Nepal Police has asked people travelling through these areas to take extra caution.

What is not confirmed yet

  • When the Aarughat-Dhading road in Gorkha, the only one fully shut, will reopen. Only Nepal Police or the Department of Roads can confirm a timeline.
  • Whether anyone was hurt or any vehicle damaged in the landslides. No outlet has reported an injury.

Judge 1: The core event is solid. Nepal Police's account, carried by DC Nepal, gives places and times for all three closures, the Nepali dates convert consistently and the weekdays check out. The brief still needs one pass: the dek's bare 'since Sunday' misdates the Gorkha closure, the Ratopati and Nepalnews corroboration is overstated and the Surkhet date gap goes unnamed, the take invents a police instruction, and the card misses the word count. The caption body and trigger stay empty because this is a breaking brief.

Judge 2: All eight ordered edits appear in version 3, even though the revision log lists them as still missed. They are the dek date, the attribution, the corroboration line, the named Surkhet date gap, the source address, both take sentences and the card. Every date and weekday checks against the DC Nepal page, every figure is attributed to Nepal Police, and the brief says what is not confirmed yet. Small style slips remain but none is high severity: paragraph 1 still calls all three roads 'highways' where DC Nepal says road sections, and the brief uses a subheading under 450 words. Virality sits just below the newsroom's target of 60, which is expected for a brief whose caption body and trigger stay empty by design.

The complete record, including the advocate, skeptic, red team and defence arguments, is kept by the newsroom.
