Flood Hits Gorkha's Salleri Market, Police Urge Evacuation
A landslide blocked a Budhigandaki tributary before bursting at dawn, and officials give differing counts of houses lost.
Developing story. This brief carries only what was confirmed when it ran, at 07:48 NPT.

A flash flood hit Chumnubri Rural Municipality in Gorkha before dawn on Sunday, October 11. Gorkha Chief District Officer Dharendra Kumar Mishra told DC Nepal the report of a flood with a loud roar came in at 4:35 am. Chumnubri chair Nima Lama told DC Nepal a landslide had blocked the Ugyulung stream, a Budhigandaki tributary, before it burst. The river keeps blocking and bursting, with two or three big surges so far, Chumnubri chief administrative officer Narayan Prasad Sapkota told OnlineKhabar, and residents are terrified.
RSS, the national news agency, reported in a story Nagarik News carried that 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages were washed away. Chumnubri vice-chair Laxmi Gurung told RSS Dobhan, Ghattekhola, Jagat and Salleri suffered heavy damage. Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Rishiram Yadav told Nagarik News the flood swept away Salleri Bazaar and caused major damage in Jagat Bazaar, calling it a preliminary report. Mishra said no official report of casualties had come in, and reports that one or two riverside houses were washed away were still being verified.
Bridges were swept away and power was cut, Gurung said. The Arughat Area Police Office urged everyone along the Budhigandaki to move to safe ground, Republica reported. Gorkha District Police Office inspector Akash Kandel told RSS residents of Khorlabesi, Machhakhola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat in Sirdibas and Dharche rural municipalities were asked to move to safety. The disaster authority's chief, Dr. Dharmaraj Uprety, told Nagarik News the flood could reach areas down to Arughat, that an army helicopter had gone in, police were mobilised and SMS alerts were sent. Mishra told DC Nepal armed police and an army team on foot had also been sent.
What is not confirmed yet

- Whether anyone was killed or injured, which neither the municipality nor the Chief District Officer has confirmed.
- The full damage to Salleri and Jagat markets, which the disaster authority says is still being assessed.
- The cause. The disaster authority told OnlineKhabar it is not yet established, that no rain was recorded upstream, and that its early view is a landslide blocked the flow and then burst.

Judge 1: The core event is solidly sourced: a dawn flash flood in Chumnubri, with police urging people to move, reported by Nagarik, DC Nepal, OnlineKhabar and Republica. But the take, hook and headline state flat what sources hedge or never say. Salleri 'swept away' rests on a preliminary police report. The Sirdibas to Arughat order is attributed to the wrong body, the landslide cause is pinned on the wrong official, and the house count disagreement is really an early unverified figure. All of it fixes in one pass, and caption body and trigger stay empty as the breaking format requires.
Judge 2: The 'still_missed' entries in the revision log are out of date. I checked the version 3 text against the fetched pages and found all 16 of judge 1's ordered edits in place. Every figure now sits with the person or outlet that gave it, the Salleri damage stays hedged as a preliminary police report, and the core event rests on Nagarik, DC Nepal, OnlineKhabar and Republica. Some flaws remain, and with no revisions left none of them justifies a reject. The dek states the landslide cause flatly while the body lists the cause as unconfirmed, though Lama and Sapkota both name a landslide. The dek's 'officials give differing counts' overstates Mishra, who only said reports of one or two houses were being checked. The caption hook runs 33 words, over the 30 limit.
The complete record, including the advocate, skeptic, red team and defence arguments, is kept by the newsroom.
