Dhading Police Warn Public Not to Touch Flood Debris After Blast Injures Two Brothers
DC Nepal and Nagarik News report the brothers were hurt trying to break the object open inside their rented room, not on the open riverbank.

District Police Office Dhading is telling people along the Trishuli River to leave flood debris alone, after a suspicious object exploded and seriously injured two people, DC Nepal reported.
The warning matters most for anyone who lives, rents or travels along the river in Dhading: police say objects swept down by the floods that hit the Bhotekoshi and Budhigandaki rivers may carry explosive material, and no one should handle them, OnlineKhabar reported. The district police office issued the notice on Monday, October 19, asking people to report any suspicious object to the nearest police post instead of handling it themselves, DC Nepal reported. Police warned that such objects can kill and told people not to pull them apart or handle them, DC Nepal reported. Police again urged people living along the river to stay on high alert, DC Nepal reported.
Two brothers in their twenties were injured by shrapnel at Jhyamireghat, in Dhading's Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality 9, when an object they had found on the Trishuli's bank exploded, DC Nepal and Nagarik News reported.
The outlets disagree on when this happened. OnlineKhabar, citing police, said the pair were hurt on Sunday, October 18. DC Nepal and Nagarik News, both also citing the district police office, said the blast happened around 1:30 pm on Monday, October 19. None of the three reports explains the gap.
The brothers lived with their father in a rented room in Jhyamireghat, DC Nepal and Nagarik News reported. The two sons found the object on the riverbank, carried it into their room and were hurt trying to break it open, both outlets reported. Their father, who lived with them, was unhurt, DC Nepal reported.
A police team from the Area Police Office in Gajuri, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Suraj Karki, reached the site after the blast, Nagarik News reported. Both injured brothers were sent to Chitwan Medical College for treatment, Nagarik News reported.
What the object actually was remains unclear. Police have not said. The brothers' current medical condition has not been confirmed, and it is not known whether police have searched the riverbank near Jhyamireghat for more such objects since the blast. Police said an investigation into the incident was continuing, Nagarik News reported.

Editorial review record
Why it ran today
- ranking judge 1: ranked #1 with 78/100. DC Nepal, OnlineKhabar and Ratopati carry a District Police Office Dhading warning after flood debris exploded and seriously injured two. Returning Dashain travellers are named as at risk, so this is a fresh safety warning readers can act on this week. Write only what police said: no names of the injured, no ordnance or August flood speculation. Weakest dimension: comment friction.
- ranking judge 2: ranked #1 with 78/100. Confirmed. DC Nepal, OnlineKhabar and Ratopati carry the District Police Office Dhading warning after flood debris exploded and seriously injured two people, and police name returning Dashain travellers as at risk. Write only what police said: do not name the injured, and add no ordnance, Army or August flood speculation. Weakest dimension: comment friction.
What the desk dug up
- Left out. The two reports behind this story (DC Nepal's advisory piece and OnlineKhabar) omit the location, identities and circumstances of the actual injury, details that DC Nepal itself and at least five other Nepali outlets published the same day: the explosion happened at Jhyamireghat, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-9, Dhading, on Monday (Kartik 2) around 1:30pm, when a father and his two sons carried the object into their rented room and tried to break it open, rather than finding and touching it in the open as the advisory implies. [DC Nepal (earlier same-day report)] [Nagarik News]
- The record. The story's framing that police are cautioning 'returning Dashain travelers searching flood debris' is not supported by either of the two sources it cites, and the fuller incident reports identify the actual injured family as long-term renters living near the riverbank, not travelers passing through. [DC Nepal (advisory piece cited by the story)] [OnlineKhabar (cited by the story)]
- Left out. Multiple Nepali outlets, but not the two sources this story relies on, report that a named police unit and officer responded and that both injured were taken specifically to Chitwan Medical College, with police saying further investigation is ongoing into the object itself. Judge 1: The core event rests on DC Nepal, Nagarik News and OnlineKhabar and the police advisory is well attributed. But the piece ignores both ranking orders: it names private accident victims and their father with ages and home ward, and it raises ordnance. It also states unsourced claims in the take and the father's whereabouts. These and the run-on card, the dateless days, the meta coverage-critique section and a disagreement record that picks a side are all fixable in one pass.
Judge 2: Judge 2 ordered four edits and all four are in version 5 word for word. The blast now happens in the room, not on the bank. OnlineKhabar is credited only with 'handle', and DC Nepal's 'can kill' and 'high alert' lines are added. The body also says 'None of the three reports' and the caption sentence is split. The ranking orders hold, the Sunday versus Monday disagreement is real and traces to each outlet named, and the card, take, caption and tags all check against the fetched pages. Small leftovers stay below high severity: one caption sentence runs 21 words, and the body says 'the two sons' found the object where Nagarik News says 'they' about the whole family. Neither blocks publication.
The complete record, including the advocate, skeptic, red team and defence arguments, is kept by the newsroom.
